When the landscape unites vineyards and herds

At the Celler Cooperatiu de Cornudella de Montsant we have always defended that making wine is much more than transforming grapes. It is caring for a landscape, preserving a way of life and keeping alive a territory that has been shaped for generations by the work of farmers, winegrowers and shepherds.

Our vineyards coexist with forests, dry stone banks, old paths and pastures. Everything is part of the same landscape that is only kept alive thanks to the people who still work the land with respect and commitment.

For this reason we promote PASTURE WINES , a project that was born from the collaboration between the Celler Cooperatiu de Cornudella de Montsant and the Manou Association with the aim of giving visibility to one of the oldest and most valuable practices in our country: transhumance.

Every summer, a herd of goats leaves the Priorat and begins a long journey on foot to the meadows of the Pyrenees, following livestock paths that for centuries have connected villages, landscapes and people. It is not just a seasonal movement. It is a way of managing the territory that promotes biodiversity, contributes to reducing the risk of forest fires, keeps historic paths open and helps preserve a landscape that also gives identity to our wines.

We firmly believe that viticulture and extensive livestock farming share the same values. Both winegrowers and shepherds work following the rhythms of nature, respect the cycles of the seasons and understand that taking care of the territory is the best way to guarantee its future.

With VINS DE PASTURA we want to tell this story and invite you to be part of it.

Over the next few months we invite you to join us on this adventure.

Through our social networks we will share the day-to-day of transhumance so that you can follow the journey of the herd from Priorat to the Pyrenees. We will publish photographs, videos, interviews, curiosities and short stories that will allow us to discover up close the work of the shepherds, the landscapes they cross and the importance that this activity continues to have today for our territory.

We want every kilometer traveled to also serve to raise awareness of the environmental, cultural and human values ​​behind transhumance.

Tastings that explain the territory

Along the route we will also organize several wine and cheese tastings in some of the towns where the herd will stop.

These will be meetings open to the public where we will share a selection of wines from the Celler Cooperatiu de Cornudella de Montsant paired with artisanal cheeses and other products from the region. Tastings that aim to go far beyond gastronomy.

Every glass of wine and every piece of cheese will help us tell the same story: that of a living territory, that of trades that continue to take care of the landscape and that of a heritage that we all want to preserve.

They will be spaces to chat, share experiences and give value to all those people who, from the rural world, continue to work so that our territory preserves its identity.

Codolar, the wine that will accompany the transhumance

To give even more meaning to this project, we have chosen El Codolar as the wine that will represent PASTURE WINES throughout the entire transhumance.

Its name refers to the pebbles that appear on the edges of our vineyards, stones that are part of the landscape of Cornudella de Montsant and that, for generations, have coexisted with the vines. They are a symbol of strength, authenticity and the close link between the vineyard and the territory, the same values ​​that inspire this project.

Made mainly with Grenache and Carignan , El Codolar is an honest and expressive wine, which highlights the character of our land. On the nose, the aromas of ripe red fruit stand out, such as cherry and strawberry, accompanied by delicate notes of blueberries, red licorice and a subtle balsamic and smoky touch that gives it personality. On the palate it is fresh, balanced and lively, with soft tannins and an acidity that make it especially pleasant and versatile, culminating in an elegant and slightly spicy finish.

Alongside El Codolar , our Castell de Siurana wines will be the protagonists of the tastings that we will organize in various towns along the herd’s route. Paired with artisan cheeses and other products from the region, these tastings will become a way to discover the territory through its flavors and to share the story behind each bottle.

Because VINS DE PASTURA is not just a project about transhumance. It is also a way of explaining that our wines are born from a living landscape, cared for for centuries by winegrowers and shepherds, and that each glass is an expression of this balance between nature, people and the territory.

Before their arrival, we will organize a popular walk so that all those who wish can accompany the shepherds and the flock during the last kilometers of the route.

The arrival at the Celler Cooperatiu de Cornudella de Montsant will become a great party open to everyone, with tastings of wines, cheeses and local products, informative activities and a celebratory atmosphere that will put an end to this extraordinary adventure.

We want this day to be much more than a party. We want it to become a tribute to all the people who work to keep our landscape alive and a celebration of the union between the world of wine, extensive livestock farming and the territory.

Because we are convinced that taking care of the herds is taking care of the forests. Taking care of the forests is taking care of the vineyards. And taking care of the vineyards is preserving the landscape that gives meaning to our history and the wines we make.
